Winston Churchill was asked to speak to a group of students at a prestigious university in England, at their graduation ceremony. He agreed, and when it came his turn to speak, all eyes were on him.

He got up from his seat, went to the podium, and said “Never give up!” then he went and sat down. After a pause he got up again, went to the podium, and said “Never, ever, give up” and once again sat down. After another slightly longer pause he got up once more and said “Never, never, ever give up!”

And that was the end of his speech. Nobody there ever forgot it.

Can I retire?

This application looks at your financial situation prior to retirement and helps you determine if you are able to retire on your current savings and investments. You don’t have to be “old” to use this app - retirement planning should be done from when you are young - it’s never too early!

It takes into account that your investments have to be “self-sustaining” after retirement, and the display will show you when your investments will run out, or if they will grow. Obviously, no one can predict the inflation rate or even the interest rates we will be getting in 10 or 20 years time, but at least this will give you a rough idea, and allow you to try all the different scenarios without having to burn out your calculator and wear all your fingerprints off doing it!

You are also able to enter different tax rates, change your age of retirement, and work out how much you will be able to draw from your savings every month without depleting them.

You can print out the reults or save them as a CSV file which can be loaded into Excel for further processing.

I have been using this software for many months already, and although it is startling to see how much money you need to retire comfortably, at least it gives you a good reality check.

Coordinate Converter

Converting co-ordinates can be a bit confusing at times, and mistakes are easily made, which is what gave birth to this little App to remove human error!

Coordinates can be entered in either decimal or D M S formats and converted quickly.

Coordinates that are used often can be added to a preset list to recall them easily.
